TIG welding remains the preferred process for stainless steel enclosures where seam appearance and integrity matter. This article shares the key parameters we control on the shop floor.

Shielding Gas and Purity

High-purity argon (99.999%) with back purging prevents oxidation on the root side of the weld. Discoloration not only looks poor but also reduces corrosion resistance in the heat-affected zone.

Heat Input Control

Low amperage with faster travel speed minimizes distortion on thin gauge sheets. We use intermittent tack welding and copper backing bars to keep panels flat during long seams.

Post-Weld Treatment

Grinding followed by pickling and passivation restores the chromium oxide layer, ensuring the weld zone matches the base material's corrosion performance.
